12_days_before_school_endsDid you ever hear of the Twelve Days before Christmas?

Right along with that jingle, I wrote my own little tune about 12 days, the 12 days before school ends. Four kids, four sports banquets, four assemblies, speeches, parties, graduations, report cards, summer plans, transition, Birthdays, and Father’s Day. I wake up in the morning, Sargent Ryan leaving the house armed with combat boots knowing that the only way to win the war is by fighting one battle at a time.

On the twelfth day before school ends my inner voice said to me

only 11 days left to be free.

On the eleventh day before school ends my spouse said to me

if you have a chance do some yard work for me,

only 11 days left to be free.

On the tenth day before school ends my checkbook said to me,

exercise there’s no babysitter fee.
Please do some yard work,
only 10 days left to be free.

On the ninth day before school ends my girlfriends said to me,

drink heavy, martinis are artillery.
Exercise for no fee,
please do some yard work,
only 9 days left to be free.

On the eighth day before school ends my shrink said to me,

have quiet time, sit down for tea.
Drink large martinis,
exercise for no fee,
please do some yard work,
only 8 days left to be free.

On the seventh day before school ends Dad said to me,

keep teens under lock and key.
Have time for tea,
drink large martinis,
exercise for no fee,
please do some yard work,
only 7 days left to be free.

On the sixth day before school ends my mother said to me,

I don’t understand it was easy for me.
teens under lock and key,
have time for tea,
drink large martinis,
exercise for no fee,
please do some yard work,
only 6 days left to be free.

On the fifth day before school ends my spirit said to me,

the kids aren’t the bosses of me.
So easy for me.
teens under lock and key,
have time for tea,
drink large martinis,
exercise for no fee,
please do some yard work,
only 5 days left to be free.

On the fourth day before school ends my conscience said to me,

what kind of mother yearns to be free?
Kids aren’t my bosses,
so easy for me,
teens under lock and key,
have time for tea,
drink large martinis,
exercise for no fee,
please do some yard work,
only 4 days left to be free.

On the third day before school ends my class mother’s said to me,

where’s the gifts for the ad ministry?
No kind of mother,
kids aren’t my bosses,
so easy for me,
teens under lock and key,
have time for tea,
drink large martinis,
exercise for no fee,
please do some yard work,
only 3 days left to be free.

On the second day before school ends my sister says to me,

consider building refuge in a tree.
Gifts for ad ministry,
no kind of mother,
kids aren’t my bosses,
so easy for me,
teens under lock and key,
have time for tea,
drink large martinis,
exercise for no fee,
please do some yard work,
only 2 days left to be free.

On the day that school ends my kids all said to me,

how can we spend your money?
Need a temporary refuge,
gifts for ad ministry,
no kind of mother,
kids aren’t my bosses,
so easy for me,
teens under lock and key,
have time for tea,
drink large martinis,
exercise for no fee,
please do some yard work,
I am no longer free.

On the first day of summer my heart says to me,

“I love you kids don’t ever leave me.”
How can we spend your money,
need a temporary refuge,
gifts for ad ministry,
no kind of mother,
kids aren’t my bosses,
so easy for me,
teens under lock and key,
have time for tea,
drink large martinis,
exercise for no fee,
please do some yard work,
too soon this will be history.
