2012-olympic-athletes-a-cheat-sheet2Even if you or your children are not crazed sports fans, you’ve got to watch the Olympics. Not only will there be of course the unbelievable talent of so many dedicated athletes, but there will be the much anticipated opening ceremonies, countless historical, cultural and human interest stories about the host city and country, London, England as well the Olympic athletes and their coaches. It’s the ultimate way to spend summer family time without feeling like you are vegging in front of the TV—and there are so many fun Olympic summer sports to follow, it feels like there is always something on.

Plus, there’s also the idea of life lessons in healthy competition, determination, sacrifice, independence, dedication, teamwork—not to mention a few math and logic lessons when trying to understand a particular sport or adding up the scores.

To make it a little more interesting while you are watching, we at The List have compiled a roster of some of the U.S. Team’s top athletes in some of the more popularly watched sports so you can look at for them, discuss them with your family and feel like in this heady international scene, you know why you are cheering for the red, white and blue.
