Frances McDormand Explains Herself
Frances McDormand snagged the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries. Viewers might have been a little nervous regarding her impending acceptance speech because of the sour looks McDormand has been giving the camera at award shows.
The Olive Kitteridge actress, who plays opposite Richard Jenkins, wasn’t necessarily caught in a good mood at the Golden Globes and the same attitude transferred to the SAG’s. Much to the room’s surprise, she gave a surprisingly elegant and complimentary speech.
"I love what I do. Thank you for inviting myself and Mr. Richard Jenkins to the party. We love what we do, we’re proud of it, and we love Olive Kitteridge."
She continued, "I wish we could get some really cozy slippers, a box of seeds, nuts, and shoes. Hang out and watch more of our work, because every little snippet that I see, I want to watch more and more."
Hollywood’s Finest Specs
The women of film have embraced all types beauty this year – including eyeglasses. Actresses Patricia Arquette, Carrie Fisher, Rashida Jones, and Lupita Nyong’o all grabbed their readers before heading to the stage. Because no one wants to pull a John Travolta "Adele Dazeem" after last year, we’re sure these ladies wanted to make sure they could read every word on the prompter.
Patricia Arquette was the first to bring her eyeglasses and prepared speech to the stage when accepting the award for Outstanding Performance of a Supporting Female Actor in a Motion Picture for her work in Boyhood – and she read her words beautifully.

Lupita Nyong’o and Jared Leto have looked gorgeous alongside each other for two award seasons in a row now. The duo shot down hook-up rumors last year, but maybe Leto is rethinking dating Nyong’o after she sported her sexy black frames when presenting Mark Ruffalo with Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture for his role as Mark Schultz in Foxcatcher.
Rashida Jones had some jokes to make alongside Andy Samberg and she didn’t miss a beat in her clear frames.
Finally, Carrie Fisher displayed some darker shades while presenting her mother, Debbie Reynolds, with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Sofia Vergara Not A Fan Of Julianna Margulies?
As the nominees were being listed off for Outstanding Female Actor in a Drama Series, Sofia Vergara might have disagreed with some of honorees.
As Julianna Margulies’ name was being listed in the category, some might have noticed Eric Stonestreet whispering something somewhat scandalous to his Modern Family co-star Sofia Vergara. As Margulies’ name was called, Vergara’s eyes clearly rolled. Whether these two brunette beauties have some beef or not is unknown. It could have been bad timing and perhaps Stonestreet was whispering some unrelated Hollywood gossip. Either way, the video is pretty telling.
Birdman Tops Off The Night
The final award of the night, presented by Kevin Costner, was Outstanding Performance of an Ensemble Cast for a Motion Picture. The predicted winner, Birdman, graciously accepted the award on stage accompanied by a few funny moments. Michael Keaton and Emma Stone humbly thanked the cast and crew, Edward Norton noted the near impossible task of being a working actor, and Amy Ryan kept it short and sweet.
It was Naomi Watts and Zach Galifianakis who got the crowd to laugh. Prior to Emma speaking, Naomi attempted to approach the microphone and tripped over Stone’s dress train! Fortunately, Watts didn’t tumble all the way down and she did laugh it off before thanking her people. And Zach Galifianakis made maybe the best one-liner of the night. He mimicked the acceptance speech opening that Julianne Moore had made for her leading role in Still Alice. Like Moore, he joked, "When I was on As The World Turns…" Another highlight is that Galifianakis is looking super slim!
