Kerry Washington will receive a major honor by GLAAD - the special Vanguard Award, given to those in the entertainment field who have made a notable difference in the promotion of equal rights for LGBT.
Sarah Kate Ellis, the president of GLAAD, said that "Throughout her illustrious career, Kerry Washington has consistently brought to life characters that encourage acceptance of LGBT people." She went on to mention that Washington's support all over the country has sent positive messages of hope and empowerment to everyone around the world.
Washington recently dealt with lesbian rumors herself because of the extent she takes to keep her private life private.
She told Advocate, "Are we so uncomfortable with love between two people of the same gender that we immediately label it as sexual? But I've never been bothered by the lesbian rumor. There's nothing offensive about it, so there's no reasons to be offended."
The award will presented to the Scandal star on March 21 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
