3 Tips For Getting What You Want

Sometimes you know what you want but you have problems figuring out exactly how to get there. You can see the big picture, but aren’t completely clear on what you need to do in order to achieve your goals. Here are some quick tips I have for getting what you want! 

Be clear and specific with what you want. You may say that you want to lose 10 pounds because you hate your body, but maybe you actually want to just love how your body looks and feels. You might not want to hang out with that friend that makes you feel bad about yourself, but maybe you actually just want to find new friends in general and are just afraid of meeting new people? Often times, there’s always something deeper behind what we say we want or we say we want something but it’s not actually what we want. If you are able to pin point what you actually want, being able to get it will be easier.

Start taking actions towards what you want. Taking steps, even small ones, is necessary to start moving forward and getting what you want. You don’t want to be all talk and no action then wonder why a month later you still are no closer to getting it. When I was searching for a new apartment, I contacted everyone I knew who could help me figure out where I wanted to live and how I could find my dream apartment. All it takes is one small action, such as adding a side salad to your meal or choosing veggies instead of mashed potatoes as a side dish, that will be like sending a signal to yourself that you’re taking action and putting effort into it. 

Visualize what you want. Being able to picture yourself achieving your goal give you motivation to keep moving towards your goal, even when you might get discouraged. For me, sticky notes have become my best friends. I will post them on mirrors or other places that I often look throughout my day. Constantly seeing "I love my body" or "I don’t need to smoke to feel good" will actually sink into your subconscious so that you will start believing what you’re seeing and ACTING like your love your body. Write down what you want and put it on a sticky note on your bathroom mirror. See it and you’ll eventually believe it.

These three simple tips are here to help you get started on making progress towards your goal. If you know what you want, can visualize what you want, and take small actions towards getting what you want. You will get it in no time.
