Family vacations are a great way to relax and bond with one another while experiencing an exciting new setting, but getting there can be stressful. Traveling on a long flight can make young children especially stir crazy, and you'll be the villain of the entire airplane if they get too unruly. Avoid those judgmental looks from fellow passengers by following these simple etiquette tips.

You'll want to schedule your trip for a time of day when you know your kids will be less 17231 PilotKidAenergetic. Maybe an early-morning departure will help them keep quiet (and groggy) during the flight, or perhaps schedule the voyage during nap time, or after their regular bedtime. Be sure to bring some of the comforts of their bed, like a soft blanket or lovey, to encourage onboard snoozing.

Be wary of red-eye flights because if your child does not get a full night's sleep, you may be in for a rough next day on vacay.

Come Prepared

If your kids get bored, they'll entertain themselves by wreaking havoc on the plane, so keep them occupied by bringing along an overload of games and activities. Make sure what you bring can be played with quietly. Crayons, coloring books, and stickers can really come in handy hereespecially anything new they haven't seen before you embark on your journey. Electronic games on a tablet or smartphone can work well also, just make sure to bring headphones or keep the volume turned all the way down.

Keep Them Reigned In

This can be the hardest thing to do when traveling with multiple kids, but is very important for avoiding the death stare from other passengers. Make sure they stay in their seats for the duration of the flight, other than a bathroom break (or two if it's a really long flight), and don't allow things like blankets or toys to spill over into neighboring seats.

When you make it to your destination with little or no drama, you can give yourself a pat on the back and start enjoying your much-needed vacation or holiday.
