Spread awareness about diabetes and lower your own risk!
November is American Diabetes Month, and it is the goal of the American Diabetes Association to spread awareness about this growing condition. The association wants Americans to fully understand diabetes, the consequences and risks of diabetes, as well as sharing the management and prevention of type 2 diabetes.
The main focus of the American Diabetes Association is to allow for life to be free of diabetes and all of its complications. Raising awareness is crucial for this goal, especially with how vast the disease has become. In the United State alone, 26 million adults and children have diabetes. On top of that, an additional 79 million Americans are in the stages of prediabetes and are at an alarming risk to develop type 2 diabetes. It is estimated that diagnosed cases alone cost the United States a whopping $245 billion. This is something that is far too large in scale to not be aware of.
Lower Your Risk of Diabetes
- Change your diet. This is the easiest thing you can do by simply cutting out some of the junk food and focusing on healthier dishes, especially this holiday season.
- Increase physical activity. Take a walk or try a new gym membership! Just being a little more active can make all the difference.
- Maintain a healthy weight. This should be no problem if you do the first two steps. Easier said than done, we know, but small changes make a HUGE difference.
These tips will definitely help prevent diabetes, but will also help you with a healthier and happier lifestyle. Take initiative this November to help stop diabetes!
