What is a Good Bedtime Routine for Toddlers?

A toddler needs a schedule they can stick to. A daily routine is a great way to help your toddler stay on a schedule and have their bodies tuned to when to fall asleep and when to stay awake. Kids like to know when, where and how things are going to happen, and a routine helps them stick to that schedule.

Before naptime and bedtime make sure you stick to the same routine. Brush their teeth, then read them a story and then it’s time for bed. Allow your child to pick out the story you read them before they go to bed, as this gives them some control in the situation and makes the days a little bit different while still sticking to a routine. Before bedtime, make sure to not let them eat or drink. We have all heard that warm milk will help a toddler fall asleep, but this can be bad for their teeth right before bed and can possibly cause cavities, which no one wants.

So, when trying to get your toddler to fall asleep and stay asleep, remember routine is the key word. Stick to a schedule that fits you and your toddler's day and both of you will have an easy sleep-filled night!
