25 million people are affected with diabetes every year. Bobby Deen’s mother, the infamous queen of southern cuisine, Paula Deen, is one of those affected. 

In light of his mother’s Type II diabetes health condition, Deen lightened up his diet and speaks on the importance of being more conscious and aware of what we eat, even when it comes to delicious southern cooking.

Bobby Deen's Healthy Eating Suggestions

  1. Dissect your southern food recipes and point out the unhealthy culprits. Simply replace them with fresher ingredients like fruits, vegetables and spices. Or, don’t include them in your dish at all. 
  2. If you do have any type of diabetes, Deen says it’s important for you to maintain a good relationship with your doctor and embrace a steady exercise routine.
