Thanks to little Cindy Brady, there’s some vintage gossip circling from the Brady Bunch days. We’ve heard some juicy scoop before, but Susan Olsen is laying it on the line with her recent interview with news.com.au – make outs, marijuana, and money were all topics of interest for the child star best known for being a recovering lisp-er in the hit ‘70s sitcom.
Not unlike other co-worker interactions, cast members of the show indulged in some off-set hookups – mostly the kids.
“I think all of us did,” Olsen revealed. “We led a sheltered life for part of the year, so it there was anybody to get a crush on or try to date it would be our [age] counterparts.” Yes, Marcia and Greg Brady were hooking up, Jan and Peter were hooking up, and even the littlest Cindy and Bobby hooked up.
Even at nine years old, Mike Lookinland, who portrayed Bobby Brady, was known for occupying the backyard doghouse (remember Tiger?!) as the designated make out spot.
As far as the rumors go for Eve Plumb (Jan Brady) and Maureen McCormick (Marcia Brady) not getting along in real life, Olsen confirmed the lasting feud which fed various media outlets for years.
“I think it’s kind of petty,” Olsen confessed. “From day one with these two, I have always been in the middle, and now it’s at the point where there isn’t even a desire to communicate through me.”
Tension between the co-stars was further ignited when McCormick jokingly insinuated in her autobiography that she and Plumb were involved in a lesbian affair. McCormick cleared up the remarks on the Today Show when she said her comments were taken out of context, because McCormick affectionately kisses all her co-workers. But Plumb wasn’t having it and firmly believes that McCormick pulled a stunt to sell books.
“I do understand Eve’s point of view,” Olsen told Fox 411 post scandal. “She got tired of Maureen gaining attention for herself by regurgitating the tiresome and false insinuations that they had a lesbian affair.”
And don’t expect those Brady kids to be still living off their income. Cast members didn’t take away much from the five-season series.
“We even had to pay for our own parking in the first season. They wouldn’t let us drive onto the lot. We earn[ed] very, very little.”
A Brady kid has to make a living somehow – Olsen, 53, admitted to growing marijuana!
“I’ve always been into ‘gardening,’ and it’s such a wonderful, fascinating plant.”
Just kidding - she didn’t sell it!
Most recently, the cast regrouped for a special reunion on CBS’s The Talk in 2014 for Florence Henderson’s 80th birthday. Christopher Knight, Barry Williams, Susan Olsen, Henderson, and Mike Lookinland showed up for their TV mom to celebrate her birthday and 35 years since being on the air. The friendly crew answered some fan questions backstage prior to taking the stage, including what they miss most about being on television, whether Florence gets asked parenting advice, and more.
The Brady Bunch hasn’t completely vanished just yet. You can catch full episodes on Hulu, and sometimes you might be lucky enough to catch it on TVLand.
