It’s a Pleasure to Meet You!
Hello, Womensforum.com! My name is Briana Roldan, I am a 19 year old college student out of North Andover, MA. With this being my first blog entry, I’d like to touch base with you all on where I am at in my life and what types of things interest me. I believe that health comes first. I consider myself a gym-rat. Going to the gym is not only beneficial physically, but it is such a great tool to de-stress yourself! I love yoga, (preferably bikram) and hiking. I’ve hiked Mount Washington with my family every summer ever since I was a toddler. I also am a vegetarian and have been for about 4 years now. I’ve always admired the arts, and singing since early on in my childhood, finding myself in many plays, musicals and high school\college choir. Writing is also one of my main enjoyments. Ever since taking a journalism class my junior year of high school, I’ve been interested in pursuing it as a career.
Attending College
Aside from my hobbies, more importantly, I am a college student. I attend Northern Essex Community College where I am majoring in Journalism. I somehow winded up at Northern Essex after about a year ago when I realized the school I had chosen to attend, Saint Anselm, was simply not the school for me. Saint Anselm is a Benedictine school located in Manchester, NH where not only is it a small school, (ranging in about 2,000 students), but there simply was not much to do in the city. Choosing a school is an important part in the college process, as many of you moms\parents know. I’d like to give my personal advice, coming from experience, that it is okay to stop for a minute, gather your thoughts, and ask if you are in a place you consider “right” for yourself and if it isn’t, find a plan “B.” I believe this can be applied to a lot of circumstances in life, whether it be at a job, or a relationship you are in. Happiness, (although sometimes tricky to attain) is the key to a successful life.
Reorganizing My Life
It was hard for me to come to this realization after the first semester at school, but I had to put my ducks in a row and configure some plan that would follow my leaving school. I knew that I didn’t want to stop attending college (that was a no-brainer.) I also knew what direction I was headed career wise, something to do with communicating to people through journalism. Since I was certain of a major I knew I wouldn’t be totally lost.
After packing my bags last December to head home from Saint Anselm’s , I was able to treat this small falling-out as a plan to really give myself a chance at what I wanted. Sometimes, we think that plans need to go as planned, but that will not always be the case. Keeping ourselves reminded of that will surely bring us happiness in some way or another. Although, it is hard to question our happiness at times, we can easier decipher our future and maybe even choose our destiny in a sense.
Setting up for a Better Tomorrow
With this experience happening to me, I’ve now found myself in a much better and happier place than I was a year ago. I’ve been enjoying my classes more, meeting great new peers, and I’ve ended up on a great site, Womensforum.com, blogging for the first time with hope to peruse my aspirations as a writer. Without being cliché for a moment, things really do happen for a reason. Putting things into perspective when the going gets rough (another cliché for you) will result in a much smoother outcome. My point is, things don’t always go as planned, and that’s perfectly okay! No matter what your age or place in your career, ask yourself if you are completely happy and satisfied with where you are in life, a relationship, a job or school and once you find the answer, you will figure out what to do next. Trust yourself, and learn from yourself.
I look forward to getting to know the “ins and outs” of Womensforum.com.
Briana
