All eyes were on Bruce Jenner Friday night.

ABC’s Diane Sawyer interviewed the former Olympian during a two-hour television special, Bruce Jenner – The Interview. It was an emotion-filled conversation with tears from Bruce within the first five minutes as he nearly hesitated to take this step into the spotlight and be honest after "living a lie."

Once he got comfortable in front of the camera, Bruce confirmed "For all intents and purposes, I am a woman."

There was a lot to take in during the two-hour emotional journey, but we’ve recapped the biggest revelations that people were surprised to know about Bruce, his journey, and his intentions for the future.

1. Bruce has been confused about his gender identity since the age of eight.

"I’ve never fit in," Bruce told Sawyer. At his childhood home in Sleepy Hollow, New York, Jenner remembers trying on dresses, wrapping scarves around his hair, and walking around the neighborhood while his mother and sister were out. Feeling uncomfortable in a man’s body never left him. When Bruce met Kris (then a Kardashian, now Jenner) in the '80s, he had already been taking estrogen hormones and was a "36B" breast size.

2. Bruce will become a female some day, but he will not date men.

Bruce is not ready to reveal his female name and for now, that side of him is referred to as "her." Also, his sexual preferences will not change, for now.

He said he is still figuring it out, but confirmed his "very real" attraction to women. Sawyer weaved through questions, trying to understand a common question transgenders face (especially those who chose to transition medically) - how it affects whom they are attracted to.

Jenner helped clarify by saying, "No, I’m not gay. I am not gay. I am, as far as I know -- heterosexual... There’s two different things here. Sexuality is who you personally are attracted to—who turns you on— male or female. But gender identity has to do with who you are as a person and your soul, and who you identify with inside, okay?"

3. The kids had seen him in a dress years ago.

When Bruce explained to his children, "As much of your upbringing was 'her' as it was the 'he' side," he also mentioned the times his children had caught him in a dress.

Bruce kept a sense of humor when revealing that Kendall and Kylie saw Bruce on the security camera wearing his female wardrobe in their bedroom while they were out. Kendall thought Kylie was stealing her clothes when she set up the camera and then checked it to see Bruce using "the only full length mirror in the house."

Kim also walked in on Bruce a few years ago wearing a dress. "She didn’t say much," Jenner said.

4. Kim Kardashian West was the most supportive of his stepchildren when Bruce told them.

Jenner told his son Brandon, his "little Gandhi," first out of all the children. He eventually told his stepchildren Kourtney, Kim, Rob, and Khloe. Surprisingly to him, Khloe had the most trouble coming to terms with Bruce’s transition. Bruce revealed he understands Khloe’s pain as she has suffered a tremendous amount of loss in her life and fears losing her stepdad. He ensured that he is not going anywhere, no matter what changes he makes in his life. Brandon even said he feels like he’s getting an "upgraded version" of his dad. Kylie and Kendall Jenner, his only children with Kris, told ABC "If he’s happy, we’re happy."

Though she had caught him wearing a dress around the house and stayed quiet for years, Kim has been the "most accepting" of Bruce's transition. Bruce revealed that Kanye played an influence in Kim’s supportive attitude.

"He says to Kim, 'Look it, I can be married to the most beautiful woman in the world, and I am. I can have the most beautiful daughter in the world, and I have that," Jenner said of the rapper. " 'But I'm nothing if I can't be me. If I can't be true to myself, it doesn't mean anything.' "

Now, the famed fashionista is happy to give Bruce some styling advice.

"Girl, you gotta rock it, baby," Bruce said Kim had told him. "You gotta look good. If you're doing this thing, I'm helping ya, you're representing the family, you gotta look really good."

5. Bruce Jenner plans to reintroduce himself to the world as a woman.

Sawyer was lucky to have a private dinner with "her" sans cameras, and audiences were shown the black dress worn by Jenner for the one-on-one time. During the final moments of the interview, Jenner tells Sawyer to check back in one year. He also asks that people keep an open mind and an open heart.

Bruce’s interview gained not only an enormous amount of viewers, but an enormous amount of love and support. We congratulate him on this momentous part of his life and wish him the best going forward!

Note: Though Jenner has come out as "for all intents and purposes a woman," he has not yet indicated that he would like to be known by a new name or female pronouns, so this story uses male pronouns.
