Maybe the 'sort of against institution of marriage' Cameron Diaz wanted to get married before she changed her mind? Nearly three weeks after Benji Madden popped the question to the Charlie's Angels actress, the two were married on Monday Jan. 5 at Diaz’s Beverly Hills home.
Following a Sunday night rehearsal dinner catered by Lucques of Los Angeles, news broke that the Annie star and Madden were set to be married (way) sooner rather than later. The actress, 42, and rocker from Good Charlotte, 35, met seven months ago per Madden’s sister-in-law Nicole Richie who is married to Benji’s twin brother Joel. Nicole and Joel’s 5-year-old son, Sparrow, served as ring bearer for the intimate ceremony.
The unlikely but "so in love" pair exchanged vows in front of roughly 100 family and friends. Bridesmaids included Drew Barrymore and Nicole Richie. Other celeb guests included Gwyneth Paltrow, Will Kopelman, Reese Witherspoon, and producer Jeffrey Katzenberg.
As far as Diaz’s change of opinion regarding marriage? Well, she’s made a 180 since revealing in May to InStyle Magazine, "A lot of people chase after it [marriage] because they’ve been told,'This equals happiness.' They chase it, they get it, and they find out, 'Why did I think this was going to make me happy? I’m miserable!' I don’t know if anyone is really naturally monogamous," she said. "We all have the same instincts as animals. But we live in a society where it’s been ingrained in us to do these things."
It seems as though her now-husband has landed the girl of his dreams and Diaz has fallen hard for marriage to the perfect guy for her. Diaz told E! News in December just days before her holiday engagement, "I’ve never said never to anything. Believe me, I’ll try anything once or twice or maybe even three times."
Congratulations to the newlyweds!
