From Hollywood royalty to Disney royalty, the line seems to be blurring between these two enchanted worlds. Actress Rachel Bilson just welcomed her first child into the world with longtime love Hayden Christensen and if that isn’t joyful enough, the two named their daughter Briar Rose, named after Sleeping Beauty. It’s hard to resist a sweet baby named after a Disney princess.
Miss Briar Rose isn’t the first baby to enter the Hollywood scene with a distinguished Disney moniker. While no Cinderellas' or Pocahontas' are running around out there (that we know of), there actually is a list of celebs who have followed the fairytale trend.
Most recently, Esmeralda Gosling has entered the scene via her famous parents Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling. If you’re dusty on your Disney knowledge, Esmeralda was the gypsy voiced by Demi Moore in 1996’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame. A Disney kid himself, Gosling said to GQ magazine in 2010, "I loved the idea that Walt Disney had this dream of a place and then made it a reality…It’s so clearly one person’s singular dream. The fact that somebody believed in their idea so much to make it a reality…I want to be that kind of person."
Former Playboy bunny Holly Madison is a well-known Disney fanatic. She dressed as Sleeping Beauty during a trip to Disneyland for Mickey’s Halloween party and married her husband Pasquale Rotella at Disneyland over a year ago.
Madison and Rotella welcomed their brightly named baby girl into the world almost two years ago. Rainbow Aurora Rotella was given the unique moniker in accordance with her mom’s eccentric taste in names. While Aurora is another reference to Sleeping Beauty, Rainbow comes from Madison’s childhood.
"I wanted to give my daughter a unique name. Growing up, there was a girl in my school named Rainbow and I was so envious of that name. I thought it was so pretty and unique."
Former spouses Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz decided on one of Hollywood’s most infamous baby names for their son. They welcomed Bronx Mowgli Wentz into the world almost six years ago. Their boy’s middle name Mowgli is the name of The Jungle Book’s bear-cub character.
Shortly after welcoming their son, Wentz told Ryan Seacrest, "The Jungle Book was something that me and Ashlee bonded over, so…it’s a cool name."
The Disney name was a foreseeable possibility especially after their Alice in Wonderland-themed wedding and Winnie the Pooh-themed baby shower.
Halle Berry gave birth in March 2008 to her first child Nahla Ariela Aubry. The moniker is the same as love interest lion cub in The Lion King - Simba’s good friend. Although the choice was unintentional by mom Berry and boyfriend at the time Gabriel Aubry, they agreed the name was intended to be beautiful.
The actress revealed to Access Hollywood at the time, "We didn’t have a name picked out until just before we left the hospital. For us it was hard to name the most important person in our life until we met her."
We’ll be keeping tabs of other Disney characters possibly being born in the future. But in the meantime, do you think the Disney name trend is adorably appropriate or odd for a child’s name?
