It's Never Too Late to Clean Up Your Credit

Credit counseling services used to be something that people wouldn't talk about. Few people want their friends and family to know that they got in over their head or that things aren't going great financially. Unfortunately in today's economy it has become a reality for hundreds of thousands of people and families that previous were doing ok. Unemployment doesn't pay the same as a job and contrary to what the bill collectors think unemployment doesn't cover everything. No one should feel guilty about having to talk to a credit counselor to see if they can help.

You May Be Surprised How Easy It Can Be To Get Your Rating Up

There are basically three types of credit debt counseling services. One type is non profit companies that genuinely want to help people. Another type is the law firms that charge for credit counseling but they generally do a good job. The third type is companies that are only looking to scam money from you.

The third type is the one to really watch out for. They typically ask for some amount of money so that they can guide you or show you the process. Then they direct you to one of the free credit counseling services or to free credit information from the government. No one deserves to be scammed out of their money but unfortunately there are a lot of places that charge you and then just point you in the right direction.

Depending on your circumstances, type one or type two of the credit counseling services would be the best choice. Lawyers are really good when you are looking at judgments or bankruptcy options. There are just so many rules and lawyers can navigate around them quite well. In some cases they are even able to save people's houses from bankruptcy. They do charge people but they can typically do things better than the average person can when it comes to dealing with the court.

Most people are probably just looking for free credit counseling services. As of April 2009, 26 percent of people in America said that they couldn't pay all of their bills on time. This means that 58 million people in America are having trouble covering everything. We probably all know that as soon as one payment is late, the companies hit you with a bunch of charges and it is so hard to get caught back up.

Helping people get caught up is just one of the services that a credit debt counseling services company provides. A good company will be able to help with everything whether it is credit card or mortgage problems. Even the non profit companies that have been in business for 20 or more years are offering counseling on the new home mortgage programs. Good companies are making sure that their employees are educated in the newest information so that people like us can truly benefit from their services. Some companies offer debt consolation services while some of them talk to the bill collectors and try to work out deals for lower payments. Many of the companies even offer credit classes and counseling that will help you keep your debt under control

One of the things that no company can do for you is to completely erase your debt. They can potential get things lowered but those things are typically extra fees that bill collectors have added on. Even a bankruptcy judge is going to look for you to pay off as much debt as possible.

There are many companies offering credit counseling services online. A quick internet search for non profit credit counseling services will give you over 7 million results. Luckily some of the long standing companies pop up on the first page so you can check them out and see what kind of services to expect from a credit counseling company.
