Not many people are aware of the dangers of contracting a heart disease. Over 80 million Americans have been diagnosed with cardiovascular disease and many more are at the risk of contracting it. This comes as a result of unhealthy eating and lifestyle habits.

Over consumption of harmful foods and lack of knowledge on proper diets is the number one contributor to heart diseases. Overweight people are at a higher chance of developing heart disease as there is too much cholesterol in their blood. This causes their blood vessels to constrict thus leading to high blood pressure.

Doing and Eating, Being and Sleeping; Keep Your Heart Young

There are a few simple things one can do to keep their heart going strong not only for now but for the years to come.

To begin your analysis, you’ll need to do is to identify your risk factors. These are the things that will determine how high or low your chances are of contracting heart disease. Some of these factors are family history, blood pressure, cholesterol levels in your blood and excess weight. Once you know these factors it will become easier for you to identify what will put you at risk of developing a heart disease.

Some Easy Lifechanging Habits to Consider

  • Firstly you will need to give up smoking. This habit not only affects your overall health but it increases your chances of contracting heart disease and lung cancer, not to mention the injustice it will do to you teeth through staining.
  • Pay attention to your waistline as this is one of the number one places that will give away if you are in danger of developing a heart disease. When extra weight is accumulated around your middle, the blood vessels in that area become constricted and this raises the amount of lipids deposited in these vessels.
  • Eat salsa from time to time. This dish is full of antioxidants which will power up your heart. Just make sure to eat it will low fat chips and extra veggies. You could also add a fiber rich food like beans and you can get two for value in one meal.
  • Dance to your favorite tune. Studies have proven that regular dancing gets your heart rate up and this helps burn calories. The more calories you burn, the less cholesterol in your blood and the lesser your chances of developing heart disease.

Other daily heart habits to add to your list include eating high amounts of fish. This is because fish is high in omega 3 fatty acids which help combat high blood cholesterol levels. For those who worry about the mercury content in fish, are encouraged to continue adding fish in their diet as the mercury content is too small as compared to the benefits of omega 3 for the heart.

Exercise habits to add into your schedule should include taking the stairs instead of the elevator at work and parking a block away from your office building and walk the rest of the way. Any exercise that gets your heart pumping lowers the risk of you getting heart disease.

Two other daily heart habits to add to your list should include laughing as it is a number one stress reliever and believe it or not a moderate consumption of alcohol , especially red wine, as it raises your good cholesterol levels in the blood.
