This Sunday, March 8, is International Women’s Day, a day that celebrates economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future.
In an effort to inspire and empower young girls all across the globe, YouTube is asking you to share advice you would give your younger self.
Personally, if I could give my younger self advice, I would tell her to not be so persuaded by the decisions and actions of her peers. I would tell my younger self to be confident with herself, her own interests, decisions and dreams. You don’t have to defend or explain your decisions to anyone, live your life without apologies!
Share your advice by making your own #DearMe GIF here: youtubedearme.com.
Along with giving advice to your younger self and other younger women, here are some other great ways to celebrate International Women's Day!
Send a note to the favorite ladies of your life.
Who doesn’t love a surprise card in the mail? Reach out to that woman you so admire, and let her know how much you appreciate having her in your life.
Donate to your favorite women's cause or charity.
A small donation goes a long way. Give back to an organization that supports and inspires women of the younger generation. An organization I love is Girls on The Run, a non-profit after-school program that encourages preteen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running. Other organizations are She’s the First, Breast Cancer Research Foundation and The White House Project.
The International Women’s Day website says, "The Women’s Social and Political Union in Great Britain adopted the colors purple, white and green to symbolize the plight of the suffragettes." Purple on its own represents justice and dignity, values very much affiliated with women’s equality.
The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is "Make it Happen." Use the hashtag #MakeItHappen to show us how you’re celebrating!
