Have you ever thought about making your dog's treat yourself? Instead of buying gourmet snacks for your pet this holiday, we have a few ideas for DIY dog treats that are easy, healthy, and made up of things you probably already have in the kitchen. From peanut butter dog treats, banana flavored dog treats, doggy granola bars, to a doggy popsicle, we've got something your dog will enjoy. Put a smile on your dog's face by making one of these delicious and easy DIY dog treats.

Peanut Butter Doggy Bone

Ingredients & Supplies

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 tbsp. baking powder
  • 2 cups chunky peanut butter
  • 2 cups nonfat milk
  • Cookie cutter (dog bone-shaped)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl.
  3. Flour a flat surface.
  4. Roll out into a thin layer.
  5. Cut with cookie cutter.
  6. Place dough on cookie sheet.
  7. Bake for 20 minutes or until dog bone treats are browned.

Ingredients & Supplies

  • Hot dog
  • Water
  • Ice tray

Directions

  1. Pour water into an ice tray.
  2. Cut hot dog into 1/4-inch pieces.
  3. Add hot dog pieces into each section.
  4. Freeze and serve on a warm day or after a walk/run.

Turkey Beef Dog Cookie

Ingredients & Supplies

  • 1 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 2 - 4.5 oz. jars turkey flavored baby food
  • 1/2 cup beef broth

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  3. Mix flour and baby food until a soft dough is formed.
  4. Add beef broth for moisture 1/4 cup at a time.
  5. Rub hands with flour.
  6. Roll dough into 1/inch balls.
  7. Place dough balls onto baking sheets.
  8. Flatten each ball with a floured fork.
  9. Bake for 20 minutes or until the top's brown.
  10. Cool and store in a container that is not airtight.

Apple and Banana Doggy Granola Bar

Ingredients & Supplies

  • 1 1/2 cup oatmeal flour
  • 1/4 cup of quick cooking oatmeal
  • 1/4 cup flax seed
  • 1 egg
  • 1 - 4.5 oz. jar banana and apple flavored baby food
  • 1 tsp. honey
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon water
  • Cookie cutter (dog bone-shaped)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  2. In a large bow, combine flour, oatmeal, and flax seed.
  3. Stir in baby food, honey, and egg.
  4. Add water if mixture is too dry.
  5. Flour a flat surface.
  6. Roll dough very thin.
  7. Cut with cookie cutter. If you don’t have a cookie cutter you can use the baby food jar.
  8. Place cut dough on cookie sheet.
  9. Bake for 20-30 minutes.
  10. Cool then serve.
