Why buy trail mix when you can make your own? Finding snacks the kids will enjoy other than cookies and veggies dipped in dressing can sometimes be a hard task. With this recipe, you can create a snack everyone in your family will love. 

Create your own (insert family name) trail mix! Trail mix can be bought in stores, yes, but no store has a trail mix unique to your family’s favorites. This is a fun kid snack and an activity that parents will enjoy too.

Directions for Making Trail Mix

  1. Go the grocery store and get a bunch of tasty ingredients. Think of the varying ingredients you find in store-bought trail mix. Nuts, cashews, candies, dried fruits, mini cookies, chocolate morsels, white chocolate morsels, caramel pieces, pretzels, yogurt covered pretzels, sunflower seeds, etc. Amp it up by thinking of your family’s favorites.
  2. Get a large bowl.
  3. Gather your family and tell them what fun they’re about to have making a family trail mix.
  4. Let each person choose their favorite ingredient (or a few) to put into the bowl.
  5. Lightly mix.
  6. Eat!

Bag up a small amount for each person if you want to take your family treat on the road, to school, to work or just for munching on at home. It’ll be a fun family bonding activity for the kids to the teens.

If you really enjoy doing this with your family, create themes for trail mix parties, every other weekend, for every family event, etc. Have friendly competitions between you and your spouse the kids can judge.
