However, many famous faces have realized how important it is to shed light on their issues so that others can learn and work to improve their health as well, especially when it comes to heart health. Check out these female celebrities with heart problems who are working to keep heart health on top of our minds.

Miley Cyrus

Cyrus has made plenty of headlines in her young career, but one that was truly serious and shocking was when she spoke about living with her heart condition, tachycardia. Tachycardia is a heart condition that causes the heart to beat faster, which can lead to complications, including the risk of heart attacks. In her 2009 autobiography Miles to Go, she said "The type of tachycardia I have isn't dangerous. It won't hurt me, but it does bother me. There is never a time onstage when I'm not thinking about my heart."

Rosie O’Donnell

Last year, the former talk show host thought she was having a heart attack and called 9-1-1. A cardiologist for O'Donnell did an EKG and found that her coronary artery was 99 percent blocked and needed a stent to keep blood flowing. Realizing how close she had been to losing her life, O'Donnell quickly made lifestyle changes such as getting rid of junk food and eating healthier.

Star Jones

Jones had been experiencing extreme fatigue and heart palpitations when on vacation in 2010. She soon had heart surgery for a problem with her aortic valve. The valve was replaced a week before she turned 48.

Barbara Walters

Walters also had an aortic valve replacement to fix a faulty heart valve in 2010. The famed TV personality later interviewed heart surgery survivors like Bill Clinton and Robin Williams in an ABC special called "A Matter of Life and Death."

Toni Braxton

Incredible award-winning performer Toni Braxton faced heart issues when she passed out on stage during her Broadway show Aida. She was rushed to the hospital and diagnosed with pericarditis (inflammation of the covering around the heart). Braxton now follows a balanced, healthy lifestyle of diet and exercise to keep her heart health in check.

Jennie Garth

Garth has what is commonly called a leaky valve. Garth said the fluttering does not affect her too much, but complications could happen as she gets older. Garth lost her father to heart disease, which makes her that much more motivated to live a healthy lifestyle.
