Felicity Jones is just getting started. According toThe Hollywood Reporter, The Theory of Everything’s Felicity Jones, has been chosen to star in the upcoming Star Wars stand-alone film.
LucasFilm and Disney have been holding casting auditions for Hollywood’s hottest actresses including Rooney Mara and Tatiana Maslany. The project, which has been kept under wraps, is being directed by Gareth Edwards and written by Chris Weitz.
Oscar-nominated Jones, who portrays Stephen Hawking’s wife Jane in The Theory of Everything, hasn’t confirmed any news.
Disney also had no comment regarding the casting rumors.
“It would go on StarWars.com before we’d comment/not comment,” revealed the studio.
Edwards, who directed the $216 million grossing movie Godzilla, will be picking up the story where it left off in Return of the Jedi. Edwards revealed, “Ever since I saw Star Wars, I knew exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life – join the Rebel Alliance! I could not be more excited and honored to go on this mission with LucasFilm.”
Although it's somewhat unclear what role Jones would be starring in, there’s rumors that Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul and Edgar Ramierz are in talks for the male lead.
Until its release date in December 2016, Jones remains busy in the spotlight. Her newest film, True Story, in which she stars opposite James Franco and Jonah Hill, just premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
She is also currently shooting a family fantasy, A Monster Calls, opposite Liam Neeson.
Fans of Jones definitely have more films to be excited about in the coming years. Until then, you can catch her at the Oscars on Feb. 22.
