Esthetician Susan Anthony's suggestion is to find a system that works best for you based on your skin type and age. For teenagers, who commonly have oily skin due to sports and puberty, Anthony says the best facial cleansers have “active ingredients to exfoliate the skin.”

While transitioning into your 30s and 40s, you’ll start to look for more products to prevent things like wrinkles. Anthony advises to get cleansers that hydrate the skin. She also says to remember that what you eat and what you do physically weigh on your skin. So be sure to get the type of cleanser that caters to your needs. 

Lastly, make sure to look for products with active ingredients such as peptides and retinol.
