George Clooney wed Amal Alamuddin in a beautiful Italian ceremony, and with that went the world's most eligible bachelor!
George Clooney, certified bachelor, is a married man. The 53-year-old groom married his girlfriend of one year, British lawyer Amal Alamuddin, in Venice, Italy. Surrounded by family and celebrity friends, the newlyweds exchanged vows just after sunset on Saturday night.
Clooney proposed to Alamuddin in late April after seven months of dating. A shock to hopeful single women everywhere, we now rejoice as the "never getting married" actor settles down (and he definitely didn’t settle).
Alamuddin, 36, is a prestigious lawyer working under the firm of Doughty Street Chambers as a barrister who specializes in international law and human rights. The Lebanese London-based beauty (and brains) found herself courting Clooney after the two met at a charity dinner in Italy last year.
Earlier this month, the actor spoke to a crowd of people upon his receiving of the Andrea Bocelli Humanitarian Award regarding the upcoming nuptials. "I met my lovely bride-to-be here in Italy, who I will be marrying in a couple of weeks in Venice, of all places."
He directed his messaged to his ladylove, "Amal, I love you to death and I cannot wait to become your husband."
The anticipated weekend kicked off late last week as stars including Amal, Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, Matt Damon and wife Luciana, and others were seen arriving in Venice. As far as the hours leading up to the big moment, every minute was perfectly planned for guests.
Friday night featured separate his and hers dinners as a kick-off celebration. Amal was seen stepping onto a water taxi dressed in a beautiful red gown escorted by her mother, Baria, sister Tala and friends. George enjoyed dinner with friends including John Kraskinski, Matt Damon, Bill Murray and others at Da Ivo restaurant while the bachelorette gathering was held at a separate location.
The last hours of Clooney’s bachelorhood were spent enjoying a Saturday breakfast with friends Rande Gerber and Cindy Crawford where the groom was said to be "so happy…he was sipping an espresso and chatting away happily. He couldn’t stop smiling."
Later that day, Clooney was seen heading to the wedding in an antique water taxi along the Venitian canal. The groom wore an Armani tux while the bride reportedly wore a custom Alexander McQueen gown. The two arrived at the Aman Canal Grande hotel to become husband and wife.
George and Amal exchanged vows in front of 100 guests including both sides of their families along with friends including stars Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, John Kraskinski and Emily Blunt, Matt Damon and Luciana Barroso, Ellen Barkin, Anna Wintour, Bono and Bill Murray. The ceremony concluded around 8:45 pm and guests continued their celebration with a lavish reception.
The newlyweds hosted a brunch the next day and a final party later Sunday night. As confirmed by Clooney's rep, a civil ceremony on Monday will legally make George and Amal husband and wife - Mr. and Mrs. George Clooney.
Congratulations to the beautiful, happy couple!
