Listen up, because Gigi Hadid has something to say. With New York and Milan Fashion week under her [couture] belt, one of the fashion industry's most popular models is speaking up to Internet trolls who don't see her as fitting the ideal model physique.
Paris Fashion Week starts up this week and 20-year-old Hadid had a lot to get off her chest before stepping onto her first catwalk. On Monday morning, Hadid shared an open letter on Instagram to her haters. The lengthy post addressed her maybe irregular body type (i.e. having a little more skin on her bones) as well as applauded designers and editors to becoming more welcoming towards alternative model line-ups.
"So many people are so quick to comment negative opinions this month," began Hadid. "Yes, judgment on social media comes from people who, 99% of the time, have no idea what they're talking about, but I'm human, and I'm not going to lie, I did let the negativity get to me a little."
Joe Jonas's girlfriend opened several of NYFW's shows two weeks ago including Tommy Hilfiger and Jeremy Scott and inevitably became the apple of Anna Wintour's eye. She and BFF Kendall Jenner are undeniably the two models to keep tabs on as their stardom skyrockets. Even supermodels aren't immune to negative comments, though.
"Yes, I have boobs, I have abs, I have a butt, I have thighs, but I'm not asking for special treatment." She continued, "If I didn't have the body I do, I wouldn't have the career I do. I love that I can be sexy. I'm proud of it."
So before hitting "send" in the comment box, remember that building people up often goes further than pulling them down. Go, Gigi!
