mind-and-body-motivation-to-get-moving-videoDon't get trapped on the sofa watching television all day! Despite the comfort and entertainment, it can be a trap to keep you in one place for unnecessary amounts of time. Snap to reality and get moving! Health experts share their tips on how you can motivate your mind and body to get going.

My own advice is to find a buddy or share on Facebook or elswhere when you think you can't head to the gym or go for a walk. If you can't even write on social media that you are too tired or don't want to go, then you absolutely need to get up and go do it!

Lisa's Advice

"As humans we were not meant to be stationary. Being active increases your feel-good endorphins, helps you stay in shape and allows you to clear your head from the day's activities."

Stephanie's Advice

"If you're trying to get moving, chances are you're stuck in a comfort zone. Understand that it will be uncomfortable to get up and get moving, but once you make it a habit, it will become your new comfort zone."

Marisol's Advice

"Just do it!"

Amari's Advice

"The new trends in weight loss include the Paleo Diet and Going Gluten Free. A common trend is shifting more towards whole real foods and decreasing processed food."

Elyse's Advice

"The Paleo Diet is a huge trend in weight loss right now. The diet refers to eating like our Paleolithic hunter/gather ancestors. Individuals on the Paleo Diet avoid grains, dairy, processed foods, and sugar and focus on high quality protein and plenty of vegetables. Another big trend in weight loss right now is meal delivery services. With so many local companies offering organic, fresh, real food options, eating healthy is easier than ever!"

Working-the-weights-rStrength training is a healthy place to start at the gym. As a certified trainer and lifestyle expert, I like strength moves that work the total body, as well as target trouble-spots. Even if you're just starting out at the gym, try these simple weight moves to help wake up your muscles and to start building.

Rear Fly with Balance

Start on hands and knees with right foot in the air and left arm straight out to to the side with a weight in your hand. Lift your arm out to the side, keeping body in balance on arm and knee. Perform 12 to 15 repetitions on each side. This targets the core, glutes, and back of arms.

Plank Tricep Twist

Start on hands and toes with feet shoulder width apart. Make sure your body is in a plank position and your left arm is straight near the body with weight the in your hand. Lift your arm past hips, keeping your body in balance and rotate your palm outward. Perform 12 to 15 repetitions on each side. This targets the core, glutes, and back of arms.
