Once again, one of our absolutely favorite Hollywood couples are at the heart of breakup rumors.
Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck have been buzzing around the internet for all the wrong reasons. Amid split rumors, the couple and their three children, Violet, 11, Seraphina, 6, and Samuel, 3, have been seen around their Brentwood, California neighborhood looking as happy and content as ever.
While WomensForum is confident that these two do not have any tickets to Splitsville, we have been through some scary false alarms of couples separating (i.e. the Beyoncé Jay Z divorce drama circa summer 2014).
We remain hopeful but cautious of our favorite couples breaking up, because we’ve suffered heartbreak before when these couples went their separate ways...
Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin (2003 – 2014)
This was difficult. In 2014, the Coldplay frontman and GOOP owner and actress revealed they were undergoing a “conscious uncoupling.” Not only were we confused by the chosen vocabulary to describe a divorce, we were devastated that the fueled rumors were true – the two had not been seen on the red carpet in months and their suspicious protection of their privacy only raised questions.
Heidi Klum and Seal (2005 – 2012)
We hate when the model-singer relationships don’t work out. Especially for this couple who seemed to be madly in love for years. Unlike Gwyn and Chris Martin, Heidi and Seal were not shy about PDA. In fact, Seal and Heidi did a duel-serenade during a Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show one year after Klum finished her catwalk run. Seven years and four children later, the couple announced their split.
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon (2008 – 2015)
This was just rude. Fans of this power couple had witnessed enormous amounts of PDA, tattoo tributes, numerous vow renewals, ‘dem babies, etc, etc. And then they divorced!? It wasn’t so much as us being heartbroken as much as it was just a loss of invested time. After their whirlwind, fairytale romance, we now witness their ugly split battle in the press. We feel misled.
Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe (1999 – 2007)
Young love, what can go wrong? For one, Hollywood can get in the way. The two met when they were barely 21-years-old and married less than two years later. The two share teenage daughter, Ava, and son, Deacon. Just this year, Witherspoon told Us Magazine, “I think more of the problem was age. When we got together we were so young. I think it can create issues with two people in this industry because there’s so much noise that goes along with it.”
Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt (2000 – 2005)
Nope, still not over it. And Jen, we know you hate talking about this so we’re apologizing now. But this was the romance that brought us to life in the early millennium. Dubbed a “rare Hollywood success” a couple years into their marriage, the couple announced their split after only five years together. Pitt, unfaithful to Aniston with Hollywood powerhouse Angelina Jolie, eventually went on to be a father of six children while Aniston is still scrutinized in the press for her lack of children. Thankfully 10 years later, both parties have contentedly moved on. With his six children in attendance, Pitt wed Jolie in 2014 and Aniston is happily engaged to handsome actor, Justin Theroux – the two met on the 2012 film Wanderlust.
