Reality star Honey Boo Boo, whose real name is Alana Thompson, is back in the spotlight, this time for her eating habits. On the show The Doctors, Dr. Travis Stork told the nine-year-old that her diet and lack of exercise put her at risk of health problems ranging from diabetes to cancer.
Alana made a name for herself as a beauty pageant contestant on the TLC reality show Toddlers and Tiaras. She's since been a popular personality, going on to star in her own reality show on TLC, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. The show was cancelled after four seasons.
The lifestyle of the young star was chronicled through her reality shows. Her mother, Mama June, concocted a beverage for her daughter to drink before pageants called Go Go Juice. It consists of Red Bull and Mountain Dew.
Alana weighs about 125 pounds and is 4’ 6” tall. According to the CDC, a child her age should weigh between 60 and 70 pounds.
Dr. Stork says getting through to Mama June about her daughter’s health problems was one of the hardest parts of getting them to agree to a lifestyle change. The Doctors have hired a personal chef to cook the child meals. They are also working with a nutritionist to help the family achieve a new diet strategy. Alana, who suffers from asthma, was also given a bicycle by the show.
The Doctors will monitor Alana's progress in the coming months, with a February 25 episode scheduled to show her progress. Good luck to her and her family!
