Everyone's heard about the overwhelming flooding and the devastation in Houston and the surrounding areas caused by Hurricane Harvey. And we sincerely hope that our readers who were affected are staying safe, dry, and as comfortable as one can be in this kind of situation. Stay tough!
If you'd like to help, here's a list of places you can donate:
Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund - This is the official Houston relief fund.
American Red Cross - They've created a special fund for the victims of Hurricane Harvey.
Children's Relief Fund - Donate specifically to children affected by the hurricane.
Texas SCPA - Our animal friends were affected too! Consider fostering pets whose owners were displaced by Hurricane Harvey if you have the resources.
Texas Diaper Bank - Help struggling parents get the basics they need.
AIrBNB - Is waiving all service fees between August 23rd and September 25th for those affected by Harvey. They are also seeking people who can donate their space to victims as well. Sign up if you have the capability!
When awful things like this happen, we like to recall our favorite quote from Mr. Rogers (always a comforting presence).
"When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”
Look for the organizations the above and the people who are helping! If you're having trouble talking to your kids about what's happening, we have some advice as well.
Our thoughts are with everyone in Texas.
