Katniss a Barbie
At last: a Barbie that can kick butt! Katniss from The Hunger Games now has an uncanny likeness in barbie form. And she's pretty beautiful just like the actress who plays her, Jennifer Lawrence. Mattel chose to design the barbie in the main outfit Lawrence wears throughout The Hunger Games, with her loose braid off to the side and her signature quiver of arrows complete with bow. She even dons the famous gold pin of the mockingjay on her lapel, just like the character. The Katniss barbie's designer, Bill Greening is reported to have gone as far as studying the actual outfit Lawrence wore as Katniss, to ensure the doll would be an accurate likeness. And we think he did a magnificent job!
Jennifer Lawrence Barbie
Lawrence was prepared for the hype that was to ensue from playing Katniss in The Hunger Games. When she was offered the role, she reportedly took some time to think about accepting the challenge because she knew it would thrust her into the spotlight, just as the Twilight Series did for Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. The latest numbers from The Hunger Games is that the movie has made over $460 million since it premiered in late March 2012.
It will be interesting to see how much money the Katniss Barbie will make. Interested fans can go to the website BarbieCollector.com and pre-order the doll, which will not be released until August 1. The Hunger Games Barbie is retailing for just under thirty dollars.
Mattel is no stranger to turning actors into barbie dolls. The company has made several of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, most lately, of their wedding scene, complete with tuxedo and dress from the movie, Breaking Dawn. The company has even made a doll in Taylor Lautner's likeness. And guess what? His doll is not wearing a shirt! We'd be willing to bet he has those six-pack abs. The Twilight barbies went on sale in February of 2012 and can also be found on the barbie collector site for the same price.
The Hunger Games TrilogyAs difficult as it will be to wait, the next Hunger Games movie, named "Catching Fire," while not show in theaters until November of 2013.
