When it comes to thinking up weekend plans for the family, we're often at a loss. Certain days we feel like being adventurous. Other days, well, we just want to be lazy and relax on the couch. For those lazy days, what better way to bond and laugh with the family than to have a movie marathon? Here are some fun ideas for creating a family movie marathon day!
Set the Scene With Snacks
Why go to the movies when you can bring the movie theater to you? Make popcorn from scratch – just by heating kernels in a pan – to set the mood. Have popcorn buckets on hand and serve some to each person before the movie starts. The best part? You can customize your snack with cheese seasoning, cinnamon, or butter, whatever you like! Not super into the popcorn idea? Check out our Pinterest board for more snack and meal ideas. From spinach dip to homemade soup, we have everyone's taste buds covered.
Options for Family Movie Marathons
- Toy Story 1, 2, and 3
- Lion King movies: The Lion King, The Lion King 1 ½, The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride
- Take a trip on the Hogwarts Express by watching a few Harry Potter movies!
- Disney Pixar marathon: Choose three of your favorite Pixar movies. Mine would be Up, Monsters, Inc. and Finding Nemo.
- Animal Movie Marathon: Choose three of your favorite movies where the main characters are animals. For this I’d pick Lady and the Tramp, All Dogs Go to Heaven, and Homeward Bound
Finish the Night With Dessert
We can’t go to bed without dessert! End the night with an ice cream sundae bar that everyone will love. Start with vanilla ice cream and let the kids (and adults!) choose from all their favorite sundae toppings: Sprinkles, whipped cream, cherries, chocolate syrup, etc.
This is a great way to spend time with the family. Plus, the parents get to relax, too! How can you say no to that? What movies will you pick?
