Junior League Initiative: Kids In the Kitchen
Childhood obesity has become a nation wide problem, statistic shows that 1/3 of the children are overweigh. Kids in the Kitchen are an organization that hosts programs within the community. They believe educating children and their families on the importance of nutritious meals, better decisions can be made. This will stop childhood obesity and other related problems from escalating further. Kids in the Kitchen started in late 2005 are a branch of the Association of Junior Leagues. This program was motivated by Junior League of Calgary's Junior Chief Program. Their goal is to teach children the importance of nutritious meals and how to live a healthier life. Kids in the Kitchen now have over 230 leagues spread though out Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom and the United States. These branches team up with different organizations, chiefs and dietitians to provide educational resources for their community, including public service announcements and media coverage.
