This includes the division of property, spousal and child support, child visitation agreements and all financial matters which need to be divided between the two. It has nothing to do with getting back together and everything to do with having as much of an amicable and agreeable separation as the two divorcing people can have. It is not an option for everyone but it can be easier than some of the alternatives.
