Tight Little Black Dress

#12570 2 years, 5 months ago
Love this article and share the love for black. Chanel's "Ford" dress noticed by Vogue in 1926, became a prototype of the little black dress. To be precise, it had been the Chanel's own look before it became a little black dress. Her star appeal made Chanel the model for young women who wanted to copy her look.

But was Chanel the first to haved noticed the effect black makes on people? Surely not.

In the Middle Ages, dyeing black fabrics was one of the most difficult, expensive and labour-intensive techniques in the production of textiles in Europe. However, based on the historical sources, nearly half of all textiles were dyed black.

The nobility of this color helps to understand why so many subjects of the old portraits were painted in black apparel.
However, it remained a formal color until the beginning of the 20th century.

Around 1919, attitude to black had changed. It positioned itself as a highly fashionable color. The link between black and elegance became more distinct...

The enthusiasm about simple black dresses in the media in the beginning of 1920's is a proof that Chanel's little black dress was unlikely the first black couture dress...

I haven't worn a black dress in quite sometimes....But,I find this article very interesting! I didn't realize all the labor intensive work behind the making of black fabrics.

Tight Little Black Dress

I have a long, black velvet dress with gold 'chain' straps. I also have a short one with gold lace straps, but that was from a life where I was actually skinny! I don't really go to many parties where I'd be dressing up, so I'd be afraid that these two might be too formal for some occasions. Oh well, I like them.
