In 2007, Harry Potter genius J.K. Rowling first revealed that Professor Dumbledore was gay during a fan Q&A in New York.

When asked if the brilliant wizard had ever found love, Rowling revealed that Dumbledore had unfortunately fallen for one of the evil Harry Potter characters - Grindelwald, a brilliant but cruel wizard whom Dumbledore had befriended before the accident involving his sister.

"[Falling in love] added to [Dumbledore's] horror when Grindelwald showed himself to be what he was," Rowling told fans. "To an extent, do we say it excused Dumbledore a little more because falling in love can blind us to an extent, but he met someone as brilliant as he was... he was very drawn to this brilliant person and horribly, terribly let down by him."

Although Rowling says she had always pictured Dumbledore as gay, there are some Harry Potter fans who apparently don’t agree.

Tuesday, a fan tweeted to J.K. Rowling, “I wonder why you said that Dumbledore is a gay because I can't see him in that way.”

Rowling had the perfect response: "Maybe because gay people just look like... people?"

The fan responded in a Tweet that has now been deleted, "Yes you are absolutely right. Such an inspiration."

We completely agree. As if we didn't already admire Rowling enough already, the author has previously said that she pictured the existence of all faiths and sexual orientations at Hogwarts.
