This year’s Super Bowl just got a little bit... sparklier! The Halftime Show presented by Pepsi just announced that this year’s leading performance will be led by the original California Gurl, Katy Perry.
Rumors about Perry headlining the halftime show started in August. However, the Wall Street Journal had reported that artists performing at the Super Bowl halftime show are asked "to contribute a portion of their post-Super Bowl tour income to the league, or if they would make some other type of financial contribution, in exchange for the halftime gig."
We’re thinking, though, that’s not how the deal between Perry and the NFL went down. Perry previously stated, "I’m not the kind of girl who would pay to play the Super Bowl."
The singer had tweeted just last month, "Ahh, Sunday…Nothing but sitting on the couch, watching my new favorite sport…" The telling tweet was accompanied by a football emoji.
Perry will be following a killer performance by Bruno Mars who performed last year, bringing in Super Bowl ratings of 11.5 million viewers—the most watched game ever.
We're excited to see what the cat-loving singer will bring to the show, and are hoping it won't compare to anything that's been done at a football stadium before.
If we had to predict a playlist, we’d say: Her most recent hits like "Dark Horse" and "Roar" and also some old favorites "Firework," "California Gurls," and "I Kissed A Girl."
Katy, who lovingly calls her fans "Katy-cats" is doing some planning herself as far as the big Sunday night event goes. In the promotional video released by Pepsi, Perry suggests covering the stadium in edible glitter…genius!
If you weren’t originally planning on tuning into the NFL Super Bowl on February 1st, it might be time to change your plans, because this Halftime show is not to be missed. See you there, Katy-cats!
