Keira Knightley takes it all off in the next issue of Interview Magazine. The famed actress posed topless in a photo-spread shot by fashion photographer Patrick Demarchelier.
The 29-year-old graced one of the magazine's six covers. The other women featured on the covers included Nicole Kidman, Naomi Campbell, Amber Valletta, Lea Seydoux and Daria Werbowy. However Knightley’s cover went without Photoshop. Her bare chest and long wet hair create a stark and powerful image for Interview’s cover.
In an interview with The Times, Knightley explained the photo-shoot as a way for her to lead a "normal life." Interview followed Knightley’s orders when she requested her body to not be edited in any way.
"I think women’s bodies are a battleground and photography is partly to blame," Knightley said. "I’ve had my body manipulated so many different times for so many different reasons, whether it’s paparazzi photographers or for film posters. That (shoot) was one of the ones where I said, 'OK, I’m fine doing the topless shot so long as you don’t make them any bigger or retouch.' Because it does feel important to say it really doesn’t matter what shape you are."
Knightley is avid about assuring that her chest isn’t enhanced to look bigger like it has been in the past, most infamously in 2004 for the King Arthur movie poster. She has since posed topless in Allure as well. "They always pencil in my boobs."
While women posing nude in photo’s continues to be a conversation in the entertainment world, Knightley wonders,
How much flesh are we meant to bare? What’s appropriate?"
