Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching and many of us love this holiday because it is a time for us to show our loved ones just how much they mean to us. The holiday is not just for adults, it is a great time to express your love to the little ones in your life who have stolen your heart; the kids.

There’s never a wrong time to tell your kids you love them, so why not do a little something special to show them just how much they mean to you?

On February 14th, plan on waking them up a little early before school, daycare, or just for the day. Have a celebratory breakfast waiting for them with these fun Valentine’s Day breakfast ideas for kids.

Red Velvet Pancakes

We all love pancakes and who doesn’t love red velvet? Combined together you have a delicious breakfast idea in the perfect shade of red.

  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 ½ cup buttermilk
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter
  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Start by mixing together all dry ingredients. Then, melt your butter. Add eggs, food coloring, vanilla and buttermilk in a separate bowl. Mix together and add to the dry mixture. Keep stirring until smooth.

After your mixture is ready fry on a skillet until you have your cooked pancakes. Top with desired garnished like fresh whipped cream, berries or chocolate chips. You can even cut in to a heart shape for an extra special effect.

Chocolate Hazelnut French Toast

Kids today go crazy for the chocolate hazelnut combination. If you make them this French toast with strawberries and the chocolate hazelnut, you are sure to start their day off right.

  • 3 pieces of challah bread, cut into large hearts using a cookie cutter
  • 3 large strawberries
  • 2 tablespoons of chocolate hazelnut spread
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 pads of butter
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons Mascarpone cheese
  • ¼ tablespoon vanilla

Mix together your batter using the milk, vanilla, eggs and milk.  Heat up your skillet and dip the heart-shaped challah into the French toast batter. Then, fry the mixture on the skillet until you have a cooked French toast heart.

Next, let your hearts cool, then spread the Mascarpone cheese over the heart. It should melt just a little bit. Add the sliced strawberries. Take the chocolate hazelnut spread and apply on a separate piece of bread and place face down over the cheese and strawberry mixture.
