Get ready for some more Mike Magic next July!
Ladies, it’s time to rejoice! When Magic Mike hit theaters two years ago, it was certainly a pleasure to see Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey, and their abs, on the big screen. Now, a second sexy film of stripping magic is set to hit theaters in July 2015.
This time there is an even bigger, better plot and title. The director of the first film, Steven Soderbergh, recently confirmed that the Magic Mike sequel is underway, and is getting ready to film this fall. He also let the title of the sequel slip.
Magic Mike's sequel will be called Magic Mike XXL, and is making some hefty changes from the first film. One of which is replacing Magic Mike's director, Steven Soderbergh with Gregory Jacobs.
Channing Tatum also confirmed in a recent interview that the sequel would be very different from the original. (More stripping hopefully?)
"I don’t know if I've ever seen a sequel that is going to be this different from the first movie - in a good way," Tatum said.
In addition to starring in the film, Tatum has revealed that he'll be co-writing the sequel, and that he wants the new film to be a lot more lighthearted and more fun than the first one. The first film was loosely based on Tatum’s real-life experience working as a male stripper.
Tatum told The Hollywood Reporter in June that, "[The sequel] will be a road-trip movie, and it will essentially be the movie that everyone thought the first one was going to be: crazy and fun and less slice-of-life and less drama."
Many of the first film favorites will be reprising their roles but there hasn't been word yet whether McConaughey will return as Dallas.
This popular movie is also stripping its way to the Broadway stage. Tatum and Reid Carolin, who wrote the original film, are working together on a live theater adaptation of the film.
What are you more excited for, the stage version of Magic Mike or Magic Mike XXL coming out next summer?
