There's nothing we love more than getting to know our influencers and sharing their stories, so we're thrilled to introduce you to Ashley Dougherty, the blogger behind the Spenderella.
How did you get into blogging?
I started to blog in 2011 when I lived in Hawaii. The blog started a year after I had a Facebook Group where I shared my grocery deals and encouraged many to start couponing. I noticed so many locals in Hawaii were spending $700- $1000+ a month on groceries.
So I started a website called Hawaii Shopaholics (has since been rebranded in 2016 to The Spenderella) to help explain how to stretch your money and reduce your grocery budget. The website was how to Live Frugal in Paradise. In 2013, I published a book, Couponing in Hawaii, which is referred to the Coupon Bible!
In the book I broke down how to shop at each store like Target, Walmart, Safeway and more, the same way I do on the website. I also explained how to find coupons to build a coupon inventory. The Spenderella is more online shopping deals and reviews and less couponing as becoming a mom leaves very little time to go to so many stores. Don't get me wrong I still coupon, still have a coupon binder but limit myself to 3 stores that I shop at with coupons.
What are your goals for your blog?
My goals for my blog is to teach how to score deals online. As a mom always on the go with very little time, I do not have hours to go to a store to shop for clothes, groceries or anything. Therefore, personally online shopping is what I do the most and what I share the most!
Who are some of your favorite fellow bloggers? Who or what inspires you outside of the blogosphere (books, movies, TV, other people’s stories, etc.).
I have so many favorite bloggers that it is hard to list them all. Suzie Orman inspires me with how smart she is with money. I have listened to her for years and followed her advise and am proud to say we live debt free (minus our house). I would also say military spouses inspire me with their strength to be able to juggle a home, kids, stress of spouse's job like deployments and so much more that they go through on a daily basis.
Who would you invite to your ultimate dinner party (celebs, family members, historical figures, etc)?
I giggled at first reading this as what popped in my head first was President Donald Trump. I have a lot of ideas I would love to share with him.
What’s your favorite part about living where you do?
In April, we moved to Augusta, Georgia from Monterey, California. It is such a huge cultural and weather change. I would say what I love most about Augusta is how clean the city is, how nice and polite everyone is and the neighborhood we moved into being a golf cart community.
What are some of your favorite things (think Oprah style) - food, fashion, home decor, etc.? All the little things that make your day better!
Home decor and food definitely make my day better. As we recently moved into a home and are still decorating, home decor is my favorite thing. I am constantly looking online for home decor ideas and deals.
What’s your day job/what do you do in addition to blogging?
My day job/full time job/ job all the time is mom to two daughters - Avery (3 years old) and Alyvia (3 months old). I blog when I get time from cleaning, laundry, bringing the girls to doctor appointments, gymnastics, swim class and the list goes on. I have very little time in comparison to 2011 to blog. However, I focus now on blogging by posting the best deals.
Thank you for sharing with us, Ashley!
