After nearly 20 years of marriage, Melanie Griffith is splitting from Antonio Banderas.
Melanie Griffith filed for divorce from husband and actor Banderas after just celebrating their 18th wedding anniversary in May. With a statement released from the couple’s rep, they ended things in a "friendly manner, honoring and respecting each other." The couple was married for 18 years.
In a joint statement, Griffith and Banderas said "We have thoughtfully and consensually decided to finalize our almost twenty years marriage in a loving and friendly manner honoring and respecting each other, our family and friends and the beautiful time we have spent together - Melanie & Antonio."
Griffith and Banderas were both married to other people when they met on the set of Two Much in 1995. Banderas was married to his first wife Ana Leza. Griffith was married to Don Johnson (for the second time) with whom she has a daughter, Dakota Johnson, star of the upcoming film Fifty Shades of Grey.
News of the split might not come as a shock to people as the couple’s relationship had been in question for the past few years with breakup rumors swirling. Griffith, 56, and Banderas, 53, share one child together, daughter Stella del Carmen Banderas who turns 18 in September.
Griffith is filing for sole custody of their daughter and also seeking spousal support, as cited in the divorce papers filed by the actress’ attorney, Laura Wasser.
