This winter, cold and flu season is upon us and the sooner you get the flu shot, the less likely you’ll be to catch the flu.
Although the virus you receive is not active or alive, it takes about 3-4 weeks for you body to be ready to defend itself against it. Meaning if you get a flu shot and within the next several days you run into someone with the flu... you still may get that bug!
More Reasons to Consider a Flu Shot
Walgreens just released its bi-annual study that finds:
- More than 17 million people will miss holiday events due to the flu.
- More than 11 million people will miss their vacation due to the flu.
- More than 13.8 million people will miss a date or relationship occasion due to the flu.
It’s important to understand that two out of five adults last year missed some sort of activity ranging from vacation, holiday parties, business trips and even romantic dates. It’s a pretty compelling reason to get that shot in the arm or breathe in the nasal vaccine to avoid a stretch of sickness.
More statistics revealed that 42% of those with the flu got the virus from a co-worker and 42% of those that missed work were not compensated. More than $8.5 Billion were lost in wages which was 25% higher in 2012 than 2011.
More ways to fight the flu include a healthy diet, hydrating regularly with water and other low calorie beverages, and 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week. Get healthier this winter season and check out our videos for exercise ideas.
