Creative and sweet - we're all about this new dessert craze.
Ice cream sandwiches are delicious on their own, especially on a hot summer day from the local ice cream truck. But it seems desserts have taken some interesting twists lately, modernizing the sweet tooth world. One such creation is the churro ice cream sandwich. It's an awesome take on the traditional ice cream sandwich and has become LA’s hottest new dessert. Check it out and see how you can make your own!
This signature treat can be found at Chef Sylvia Yoo’s pastry business Churro Borough in Los Angeles. She's an experienced pastry chef who previously worked at Jean Gorges and WD-50, thus we can expect sweet greatness from her.
She makes the ice cream and churros herself. There are plenty of flavors to choose form such as vanilla, Mexican hot chocolate (love!) and orange creamsicle. Sounds delicious obviously!
But how healthy are these yummy treats? Dietician Alyse Levine reportedly checked out the nutritional numbers for us.
They predicted that an ice cream sandwich with a few ounces of churro would probably have about 410-500 calories and 22-26 mg of fat. The churro ice cream sandwiches have 45-56 grams of carbohydrates, 25-30 grams of sugar and 300-450 mg of sodium. But health experts are not against people enjoying these tasty treats occasionally.
So if you find yourself in LA and craving some ice cream and churros, you know where to go! You may consider making this mouthwatering dessert in your own kitchen!
