After six year of marriage, four wedding renewal ceremonies, one set of matching tattoos, and two children later, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are officially calling it quits. According to TMZ, Nick Cannon filed for divorce on Dec. 12 in New York.

Rumors of trouble in paradise began last April, right around the couple’s six-year anniversary. And unlike the year before, and the year before that, Mariah and Nick were not renewing vows to celebrate their anniversary.

Originally, Cannon denied claims of a split to Parade Magazine in May.

"You kind of have to ignore it because every week it’s something different, and if you paid attention to it, it actually probably would start really affecting you…There’s no merit or truth to it. It’s kind of humorous, really. It couldn’t be further off from the truth, and it really affects the credibility of the so-called newspapers," he said.

Only three months later, a source disclosed to E! News that their marriage was nearing the end.

"There have been issues between them for a while. They aren’t getting along. She wants to end it and it has been in the works for months."

Cheating rumors against Cannon were under fire for a while and also talk that Mariah wanted Nick to stop working and stay home.

"She has tried and tried to get him to stay home more, but he always uses work as an excuse. When she points out that, financially, he does not need to be working as much as he does, it pisses him off and pushes him farther away. He hates when people assume he’s living off her money."

For now, both Carey and Cannon have career ventures to focus on. Mariah just signed a residency deal in Las Vegas, which will begin in May and Cannon’s children’s book was released in October.

The couple shares twins, referred to as "Dem Babies," Moroccan and Monroe, born in April 2011.
