What a year it’s been for little Prince George. He turned one on Tuesday and to celebrate, royal parents Prince William and Kate Middleton issued a statement to express their gratitude. "We would like to take this opportunity on George's first birthday to thank everyone over the last year, wherever we have met them, both at home and overseas, for their warm and generous good wishes to George and our family." It was one year ago today that everyone’s favorite royal baby Prince George was born at 4:24 p.m. in Paddington, London. How did the royal family celebrate?

Royal Family Celebrates Prince George’s First Birthday

To pregame the event, the golden haired cutie celebrated his mini-milestone with his royal parents at the "Sensational Butterflies" exhibition at the Natural History Museum, which Kate is a patron of.

Photos have been released of the happy family exploring the exhibit, one of which shows Prince William with a butterfly that landed on his hand and little Prince George could not be more intrigued! Another photo showed the little trendsetting Prince cheerfully walking through the exhibit looking stylish in his denim overalls.

But the royal fun didn't stop there! According to sources, Kate will be throwing a party at Kensington Palace in honor of her son and most of the royal and Middleton families are expected to attend. It will most likely be a tea party indoors but will transition to their garden, weather permitting.

Though he is probably the most famous baby in the world, his parents have stated they want to give a "normal" upbringing. Prince George goes on play dates with other children his age just like everyone else!

He is third in line to the throne, behind his father, Prince William, and his grandfather, Prince Charles.

Happy birthday Prince George!
