The internet world has been buzzing about the latest images surfacing of Renee Zellweger, with many questioning the visibly different appearance.
When the 45-year-old actress walked the red carpet for Elle’s Women in Hollywood Awards Monday, many took to social media to question some changes in her face. But Zellweger addressed those questions on Tuesday in an interview with People.
"I'm glad folks think I look different! I'm living a different, happy, more fulfilling life, and I'm thrilled that perhaps it shows," the Academy Award Winner told People.
Zellweger, who last starred in My Love Song in 2010, said she felt the questions about her appearance are "silly," but decided to address them because "It seems the folks who come digging around for some nefarious truth which doesn't exist won't get off my porch until I answer the door."
She said she’s not sure why there is so much chatter about her look.
"My friends say that I look peaceful. I am healthy," she said. "For a long time I wasn't doing such a good job with that. I took on a schedule that is not realistically sustainable and didn't allow for taking care of myself. Rather than stopping to recalibrate, I kept running until I was depleted and made bad choices about how to conceal the exhaustion. I was aware of the chaos and finally chose different things."
She said she is now doing work that allows for "being still, making a home, loving someone, learning new things, growing as a creative person and finally growing into myself."
She is currently dating Doyle Bramhall II, who is also 45.
The actress, who typically avoids the spotlight, attended the awards event Monday in honor of her co-star Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
"People don't know me in my 40s," Zellweger said. "People don't know me [as] healthy for a while. Perhaps I look different. Who doesn't as they get older? Ha. But I am different. I'm happy."
