Roseanne Barr has some not-so-funny-news to share regarding her health. According to the 62-year-old comedienne, her vision “is closing in.”
Barr revealed to the Daily Beast at the Tribeca Film Festival the hereditary disease she’s been diagnosed with and how she’s coping. “I have macular degeneration and glaucoma,” said Barr. “I just try and enjoy vision as much as possible, you know? Living it up.” Barr’s late father also struggled with the blinding disease. “My dad had it, too,” she explained.
As the Roseanne star preps for the difficult road ahead, she hints that she’s thinking about hiring someone to help her take part in activities like reading.
“It’s something weird. But there are other weird things. That one’s harsh, ‘cause I read a lot, and then I thought, ‘Well, I guess I could hire somebody to read for me and read to me.’ But I like words and I like looking. You do what you have to do.”
And not surprising, the avid user of marijuana has said that the drug is coming in handy during her loss of vision. “[Marijuana is] good for me that because I have pressure in my eyes. [Marijuana is a] good medicine for a lot of things.”
Barr further defended her pot advocacy explaining, “It’s expansive. It opens your mind. It makes you wonder. It doesn’t close that down.”
Our thoughts are with Roseanne during this difficult time.
