Saving Money: Is Organic Worth The Price?

saving-money-is-organic-worth-the-price-headerGetting in at least five servings of fruits and vegetables is a daily goal.

For those wanting to lose weight, increasing the amount to 9-11 servings has proven effective with my Chicago Achievers Project and Well Centered weight loss programs. However, many people are concerned with pesticides and other chemicals and opt for organics which are more expensive. Here are a list of foods that might be best bought in the organic section over traditional fruits and vegetables.

So next time you're headed to the grocery store, pay a little more on these particular items.  The skin and outer covering are soft which may absorb more toxins.

Choose These Organic Fruits and Vegetables

  1. Apples
  2. Bell Peppers
  3. Celery
  4. Cherries
  5. Grapes
  6. Peaches
  7. Raspberries
  8. Spinach
  9. Strawberries
  10. Pears

Although 9-11 servings may seem like alot of food, keep in mind that they are packed in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, water and fiber. All these components help your body decrease inflammation and fight off many diseases and cancers. Plus they are low in calories and fill you up, which helps maintain your weight. You can find a shopping list and menu plan in my book, Naked Fitness (Vanguard Press). You'll also get more information about losing weight with a simple walking plan and a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, lean protein and fiber.
