This new shocking TV show is stirring controversy before it even airs.
Oh mama! This new reality TV show from Lifetime Network is causing a ton of debates before it’s even born (sorry, had to do a pun there). It’s called Born in the Wild and the show will follow pregnant women who give birth outdoors, unassisted by doctors. However, doctors and viewers aren’t too happy about the show saying not only is it something people don’t want to watch for an hour but it’s also not safe.
According to a press release from the network, they said, "What happens when the craziest experience of a woman’s life becomes truly wild, and soon-to-be parents decide to take on an unassisted birth in the outdoors? Born in the Wild will document the journeys of young, expectant parents who have chosen to give birth ‘in the wild.'"
Doctors are taking a stand saying that while many think childbirth is a natural process and people stress medicine needs to be involved, it still is a medical procedure and many women used to and have died during childbirth.
But Lifetime is backing up their new show saying that no first-time mothers will be allowed to participate, all participants must have a clean bill of health and a trained emergency professional will be present during all births.
Doctors still aren’t buying their “precautions.”
The expectant mothers even get to choose the location where they will give birth but the show will tape near a hospital in case something does go wrong. People are also worried about this becoming a "trend" and expectant mothers won’t seek necessary medical assistance when it’s time to give birth.
