Amazing footage of an erupting volcano in Papua New Guinea are trending.
Most of us have never seen an erupting volcano up close and most of us never will. However stunning new photos and videos of an erupting volcano in Papua New Guinea will make you feel like you're there.
Mount Tavurvur, located near the town of Rabaul in the eastern region of Papua New Guinea erupted on Friday morning at 3 a.m. and some fearless bystanders got some impressive shots. They were close enough to get some erupting images but far enough across the water to stay safe.
These incredible photos quickly spread all over social media. The magnificent images and footage show the massive 12 mile long body of smoke and ash plume originating from the volcano.
This isn't the first time that Mount Tavurvur has erupted. 20 years ago it erupted along with local volcano Vulcan and took five lives. When it erupted in 1937 it resulted in the deaths of more than 500 people. For safety reasons, Australia airline Qantas had to divert some of their flights due to the affected area.
