Seen on the runways for Versace and Topshop, and championed by cult makeup artist Pat McGrath, this season is all about shimmer. Use metallic tones to give your eyes a subtle glow, or go all out and use some glitter to really add some sparkle to your life – just remember, a little goes a long way!

"No Makeup" Makeup

This spring, a fresh-faced complexion is all the rage for designers such as Givenchy and Michael Kors. To achieve the look, make sure you are regularly exfoliating away all that dry winter skin and moisturizing twice a day - a skincare routine that should give you a perfect base. Next, use a velvety primer to smooth out any imperfections in the skin, and then apply a foundation as close as possible to your natural skin tone. To finish up, use neutral, muted tones on eyelids and lips, and lightly brush the contours of your face with a highlighter to give yourself a dewy glow.

Lighter Lips

While reds and burgundies are the mainstays of winter lipstick looks, this spring labels including Max Mara and Derek Lam ditched the heavier colors in favour of lighter shades. Peachy pinks and corals are perfect to give a fresh, flirty aspect to your makeup, while shiny watermelon or lilac lip gloss can add an unexpected dash of color. Don’t forget to gently exfoliate your lips with a sugar scrub to create a flawless pout.

Pop Of Color

As we leave dull, dark winter days behind us, bright colors can really come out to play. On the runways of Missoni and House of Holland, we saw graphic blocks of color on the upper lid, brushed on with reckless abandon. While this may be too dramatic for everyday wear, tone it down and try a dot of emerald green at the inner corners of the eye, or even some electric blue mascara to effortlessly update your look. Take inspiration from make-up guru Lynsey Alexander and use color to give yourself a “90s cool-girl feel.”

Cat Eye

A makeup mainstay, the cat-eye flick isn’t going anywhere this season. However, make-up artists are constantly looking for fresh new takes on the classic. In Erdem’s SS18 show we saw very minimal cat-eye flicks at the outer edges of the eye, while Fendi had huge Amy Winehouse-style strokes, and Marc Jacobs flaunted elegant Cleopatra eyes. But the best way to rock this look for spring? Whatever style of flick you prefer, keep it minimal with nude eyeshadow and neutral lips, and stick to clean lines to really make your eyes the centre of attention.
